Dear internet,

I can no longer tell whether the grass is greener. In your eyes, does the sky still appear pure blue? I hope we’re asking harder questions - the immaterial, the abstract, the philosophical. What are the costs of artificial intelligence in that context. As we wander into this new that is happening, I implore all of us, collectively to try and ask them. It’s the refusal to ask these questions in the bigger rooms that are making the clouds densely grey.

Look, questions of ethics behind artificial intelligence is past. The open source, publications, and knowledge bases have been computationally consumed in order to make it. It’s an exploitation.

I hope we as a community, a collective of builders and contributors, can begin to ask ourselves: is open source, as we know it, still economically healthy. I don’t want to gloss over the incredible paths that open source creates. The idealistic and social benefits are beautiful. Being able to learn from the world in the open capacity is and has been an unbelievable luxury. I couldn’t possibly express the gratitude I feel towards open source and the people who build it.
